The D1ck #0770

The first two Non-Fungible Tokens in the HEK collection are from the group Ubermorgen, taken from their project The D1cks (2022) – handcrafted pixel drawings of penises. The D1ck #5056 is adorned with a Kelim pattern. These drawings are stored on the Tezos blockchain. Purchasing them grants access to the image file and establishes a unique ownership relationship. The D1cks are an ironic gesture towards PFPs (Social Media Profile Pictures) that were so popular in 2021, and a crude comment on male dominance in the NFT sector. The series is humorous, yet it also holds facets of media reflexivity.

What interests us for the HEK collection are works that engage with the inherent qualities of blockchain technologies and how artists express these through NFTs. Similar to early net art, which harnessed the possibilities of the World Wide Web, from distribution channels to self-promotion. What is this new space? How is it interconnected? What utopias are conceived there?

“The D1cks are hand pixelated collectible D1cks with proof of ownership stored on the Tezos blockchain. These are the D1cks that inspire the modern CryptoArt movement. Selected press and appearances include well – everywhere. I mean have you ever seen anything relevant without a D1ck? The D1cks are one of the earliest examples of a Non-Fungible Token on Tezos and were inspiration for the ERC-721 standard that powers most digital art and collectibles. Every D1ck is hand-crafted by lizvlx's tender feminine hands and sometimes their number has meaning. I guess everybody needs a D1ck, so go ahead, buy and be a D1ck.
