Karen Lancel and Hermen Maat explore the tension between embodied presence, intimacy, privacy and trust in our social technology systems. In the work E. E. G. KISS, which can be experienced in the current exhibition Future Love, the artists are investigating how a kiss can be translated into biofeedback data. The installation invites the audience to participate in a synthetic kissing ritual where all participants feel, see, hear and experience a kiss together. During kissing, the brain waves of the participants are measured and analyzed via a computer interface. This interface transfers the real-time E. E. G. data into a music score, which in turn creates an inviting projection on the floor.
Since the work has to be supervised, it cannot be experienced on all exhibition days. On Valentine's Day however, we offer the opportunity to try out the kissing all day long (12:00-18:00).
