HeK and Vitra Design Museum invite you to an evening in which computers and robots are in charge of the groove! Meet a band made of Lego toys and other robotic machines crafted by skilful artists, musicians and designers.
Formed by Giuseppe Acito (IT) in his studio, the Opificio Sonico, Toa Mata Band is a robotic band involving LEGO toys from the Bionicle series. Controlled by Arduino and connected to a MIDI sequencer, this small band of Toa fighters interact with an array of synthesizers, drum machines and acoustic percussions to produce astonishing "mechatronic music".
Artist and researcher Leo Peschta (AT) will play together with sound performer Paul Gruendorfer (AT). Leo Peschta creates robotic machines and installations, such as the BM MK II, a series of single track drum computers which generate sound by hitting the object they are mounted on. Paul Gruendorfer uses electronic interconnected circuits to simulate autonomous, semi-natural organisms and ecosystems.
Dmitry Morozov (RU) - alias ::vtol:: - is a media artist who creates experimental instruments, sound installations and modular synthesizers, while also modifying toys and other devices in the tradition of circuit bending to craft new ones. He will present and perform a live concert with some of his recent robotic inventions.
