Spectral Cities – an audiovisual performance, which celebrates its premiere at HeK – is a space-spanning composition, based on the exploration of different spectral levels of cities in times of high frequency technology and digital media. These levels are translated into the realm of human perception: Advanced field recording techniques make electromagnetic fields audible or the continuous pulsation of alternating current visible. The cloud of ubiquitous communication channels becomes the material of an immersive aesthetic experience that reaches the limits of our senses. All recordings were made in 21st century metropolitan areas – Hong Kong, Las Vegas, Seoul, Vienna, Antananarivo, Lagos, Beijing, Tokyo and Shanghai.

Christina Kubisch, born 1948 in Bremen, studied painting, music and electronics in Hamburg, Graz, Zurich and Milan. In the 1970s she began her artistic work with performances and video works, followed by spatial sound installations, light spaces and works in public space. At the same time, she developed electro-acoustic compositions and radio productions. Kubisch has presented her work at numerous international festivals, solo and group exhibitions and concerts in Europe, Asia, Australia as well as North and South America. Kubisch was a guest lecturer in Maastricht, Paris, Berlin, Oxford and Vienna, from 1994 to 2013 she worked as Professor of Audiovisual Art at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saarbrücken and has been a member of the Akademie der Künste Berlin since 1997.

Florian Kindlinger, born on 20.07.1984 in Salzburg, studied German and English language and literature, electrical engineering and computer music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Since 2008 he has been working as a freelance musician, sound engineer and filmmaker and is living between Salzburg and Vienna. Kindlinger experiments with elements of new as well as electronic music, noise, photography and experimental film and has realised numerous works and lectures in the field of set sound, sound editing and sound design.

Peter Kutin works as a producer and composer in the fields of advanced electronic music and sound art. He is co-founder of key movements such as Ventil-Records, the platform Velak or the Real-Deal Festival as well as long-time member of the political-activist performance group God's Entertainment. Kutin combines his music with film and video works, light installations and kinetic sculptures.
