15.09.2016 – 13.11.2016
With “Liminal Laws,” the HeK presents the American artist Addie Wagenknecht’s first solo exhibition in Switzerland.
In her works, the artist reflects on the influence media technologies have on our society. Wagenknecht addresses her subject matter in multifaceted artistic interpretations, ranging from sculptures and prints to interactive installations. The title of the exhibition, “Liminal Laws,” refers to the permeability of borders. Addie Wagenknecht poses the critical questions: To whom do borders apply, whom do they protect and whom do they exclude? This refers not only to the access to technologies but also to the role of women in society or to the situation of refugees.
The exhibition was developed specifically for the HeK and its partner institution MU in Eindhoven. Together, the two institutions commissioned Wagenknecht to create new artworks to address the selected topic. The result is a variety of works that demonstrate inclusions and exclusions in a sensory, poetic and also political way and that, despite their manifest beauty, stimulate the public to reflect on societal developments.
